Temple Overview

In the year 1935, a few ardent devotees  under the guidance  of Sri. K. Satyanarayana Jois and Sri. K. S. Lakshminarayana Rao (Shamannayya) formed Sri Baala Rama Seva Forum. The Seva Forum was started at Kallur situated in Gubbi taluk of Tumkur district, Karnataka.  It began with the celebration of  Sri Ramanavami and Sri Ramotsava in Vaishaakha Maasa every year. Sri. K. Venkatanarayanappa, Sri K.V. Venkatasubba Jois recited Mahabharatha, Ramayana, and other holy scriptures during Sri Ramotsava. Many talents in and around the village served Sri Rama by their renditions in music, dance, play and other art forms.

It was on an auspicious day the community of people with the interest came up with raising the foundation of the temple. As the work on laying the foundation of the sanctum(Garbha Gudi) began, collection of 14 Saaligramas, mooruthi of Sri Venkateshwara, Sri Maruthi, Sri Annapoorneshwari and a Nakshatra Maalika were found beneath the foundation. This very much proved the presence of  godand his will to dwell in Kallur, and hence the temple soon was raised. It was with the blessings and spiritual guidance of His Holiness Sri Sri Sridharananda Swamiji of Hebbur Kodandashrama, His Holiness Sri Sri Chidambara Swamiji of Gubbi Sri Chidambarashrama, regular Pooja and other service t began in Kallur Sri Rama temple.

Meanwhile, an ardent devotee of Sri Ramachandra, Sri R. P. Muniswamappa and his wife who were the prominent merchants at Bangalore got a dream in which the god Himself appeared and guided the couple about his presence in Kallur. The couple found the village and understood the need of an idol for the temple. With appropriate contacts, Sri Muniswamappa could get the beautiful idol of Sri Kodanda Rama, Seetha Maatha, Lakshmana and Anjaneya done in Amritha shila  marble from sculptor Sri Ramlal Dhanlal Nanda and team in Varanasi. It was in 1958, Marghashira, Shukla Ekadashi, on the day of Geetha Jayanthi the idol was established in the temple.
